Every time I set up my booth at the Grange, I’m grateful. Grateful to watch this wonderful old building come to life one more time, doing what it’s done for over 150 years: selling things that sprang up locally. -- Dan Waters, Island Poet and Printmaker

Janet Heath, Director of Special Events

Janet Heath is originally from Vermont.  She comes from such a large family that as a child, dinner every single evening was literally a “special event”.  This is, undoubtedly, where her interest in hospitality got started.  During a six-year stint in the Navy, Janet was stationed on Guam and Oahu – her first experiences in Island living.  Although trained as a specialist in electronics communications, Janet’s favorite part of her Navy career was planning her department’s outings and events.

Janet moved to the Vineyard in 1991 from her native Vermont.  She worked in the hospitality industry in Killington; a world of skiers, leaf-peepers and weddings.  She spent her first 7 years on-island working on the food and beverage side of the Island’s hospitality industry.  Janet came to the Preservation Trust in 1998 with a strong background of organizing and executing upscale events including, of course, weddings.

Janet has developed strong and close relationships with vendors in every aspect of wedding planning.  Her work at the Trust has broadened her experience to include the management of three performing arts centers, two of which are also houses of worship.  Janet also has the responsibility of planning and executing major fund raising events for the Trust including the Taste of the Vineyard and the annual Christmas in Edgartown events, among many others.

She takes visible pride in the properties that she offers you for your event.  The meticulous upkeep of these magnificent historic venues is a constant process.  Janet and the entire staff of the Trust are focused on providing a clean, pristine, well-cared-for property for every single event.

From your first call or email until your wedding day, you’ll have the security of calling our close-knit office and knowing who is going to answer.  We’re here year-round to talk, listen, advise and encourage.

Meg O'Connor, Director of Property Management

After five years of working part-time for the Martha's Vineyard Preservation Trust, Meg O'Connor joined the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust full time in 2009 as director of property management.

Originally from Fairfield, Conn., Meg first came to the Vineyard seeking summer work between years of study at Providence College. An internship during her senior year led to a job offer, and she decided to try Island life for a year. This story has a familiar ending: Meg fell in love with the community, the natural beauty and the history of Martha's Vineyard. Her years of experience in real estate rentals have given her an excellent background in property management and tenant relations.

During her years working part-time for the Preservation Trust, Meg has been the Trust's on-site representative during receptions and assisted with all of our special events including the Taste of the Vineyard. She brings a deep knowledge of the Trust's properties and an appreciation for the importance of details. Meg feels passionately about historic preservation and the work of the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust. She feels it is an honor to be trusted with the upkeep of historic landmarks that continue to play an integral part in the community life on Martha’s Vineyard. Meg holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Providence College.
